We’re unveiling the most extensive and only prep school poll of its kind and we’ll take a look at Champlain St. Lambert (Toronto, Canada), our second school from north of the border, which checks in at No. 16.
John DeAngelis’ squad is led by Gonzaga-bound scoring point guard Pierre-Marie Altidor-Cespedes, a 6-1, 185-pound senior who can put up numbers.
But there are other D-1 guys loaded throughout this team.
``We may not be very deep in terms of we’re a nine or 10-man team, but we’re well-balanced inside and outside,” DeAngelis said. “We can run or play halfcourt. Last year we depended too much on the break and couldn’t run halfcourt stuff.”
Senior wing Negus McKenna (6-4 ½, 210) is athletic and headed to Western Carolina while 6-9, 210-pound senior power forward Olivier Lamourex has committed to UMass.
Junior guard Maurice Joseph (6-4, 170) is lanky, can shoot and will likely become a familiar name among recruiting gurus in time. Fellow junior Maxime Pauhlos-Gosselin is a 6-6, 180-pound wing who is getting Ivy League looks.
Those will likely be the starters with 6-8 1/2 , 205-pound junior big man Kambi LaLeyne, 6-5, 215-pound senior wing Bruno Bernier, 6-7 ½, 215-pound sophomore Max Boudreaux, 5-10 ½, 165-pound sophomore point guard Patrick Kervan and 6-foot senior guard Junior Nicolas coming off the bench.
``We feel like we can compete with teams, but obviously we know teams like Hargrave may have 10 Division 1 kids,” added DeAngelis. “We know our first six or seven can play with anybody. I think this is the best team I’ve ever had.”
